Getting started
How do I start playing?
PawKick Cuties is a game for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Download it from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad or Mac (on a Mac, it needs Apple silicon).
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up, no login and no account of any kind: you just play.
Can I play on my Mac?
Yes, on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later): get it from the Mac App Store. It's the same game as on iPhone and iPad, played with the keyboard and mouse. To check your Mac, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac: next to Chip, it says Apple M1 or later. Macs with an Intel processor can't run it.
What should I do first?
Open Tournaments on the main menu and start any cup you like, or pick Kick Off for a friendly match. My Team is where you choose your six players and spend skill points.
How does a match work?
It's six-a-side: score more goals than the other team before the final whistle. A match against the computer lasts 4, 6 or 8 minutes, whichever you pick before kick-off. Online matches always last 6 minutes.
Controls
How do the touch controls work?
Put your left thumb anywhere on the left half of the screen and a stick appears there to run with. Push it all the way to the edge of its ring to sprint. Around the bottom right are Shoot (the big one, hold for power), Pass, Through, Lob and Skill.
How do I tackle or switch player?
When your team doesn't have the ball, Pass becomes Tackle and Skill becomes Switch. Buttons that can't do anything at that moment fade out.
How do I save a penalty?
When a penalty is taken against you, push the stick left or right to choose which way your keeper dives. On a Mac, press A or D.
How do I play on a Mac?
With the keyboard and mouse. Run with the arrow keys (or W, A, S and D), shoot with a left click and pass with a right click. Settings shows every key, and you can change them there.
Can I use a game controller?
Yes. Xbox, PlayStation and other MFi game controllers work on iPhone, iPad and Mac, in matches and in every menu: connect one in your device's Bluetooth settings, then press any button. The on-screen touch controls (on a Mac, the keyboard and mouse) work too.
Playing online
How do I play online with a friend?
Tap Kick Off, then Play a friend. Pick the field and tap Make a room, then send your friend the room code (five letters and numbers, like K7M2Q) or the invite link from Share invite. Your friend taps Kick Off, then Play a friend, and types the code, or just taps your link. Once you've both pressed Ready, the match kicks off. Every online match lasts 6 minutes.
Can I play someone new?
Yes. Tap Kick Off, then Random opponent, then Find an opponent. The game looks for someone playing online, in your part of the world first, then anywhere. After a short countdown, you kick off on a field picked for you. If nobody's free for a while, you can keep looking or play the computer instead.
What happens if someone's connection drops?
The match carries on: the computer plays their side, and they have a minute to come back (the game gets them back in by itself). If they aren't back within the minute, it's a forfeit and the other player wins. Leaving the app in the middle of a match works the same way, and Leave match in the pause menu is a forfeit right away.
Is online play fair?
Yes. Online, every player plays at the same ratings and with the same body size, so it's skill that counts. Your team still looks like yours: your characters, kits, crest, headgear, emotes and celebrations all show.
What do other players see?
Your team as you've dressed it. A random opponent sees your team as "Opponent", never its name, and your players by their characters' names. A friend you invite sees your team's name and the names you've given your players. There's no chat: players can only send the game's own emotes.
Does online play cost anything, or need an account?
No. Playing online is free on iPhone, iPad and Mac, with no account and no sign-in: all it needs is an internet connection. Online matches are just for fun: they don't earn coins or skill points.
Saves and progress
Where is my progress saved?
On your iPhone, iPad or Mac, inside the app. It saves by itself as you play. If iCloud is on, the game also keeps a copy in your own iCloud (iCloud backup, in the game's Settings). There are no accounts, and we never have a copy.
Can I move my team to another iPhone, iPad or Mac?
Yes, with iCloud. Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on both, and open the game on the new one: your progress comes back. If both already have a game going, it asks which save to keep. Coins you've bought are kept either way.
What would delete my progress?
Deleting the app deletes your progress from your iPhone or iPad. If iCloud backup is on, the copy in your iCloud stays, and comes back when you install the game again. We never have a copy, so we can't bring it back ourselves.
I quit a tournament game. Did I lose it?
No. A tournament game you quit isn't counted as a defeat: it's still your next game.
Coins and the Store
What's in the Store?
Characters, fields, balls, kits, crests, headgear, celebrations and emotes, all bought with coins you earn in the game. Tap most items' pictures to try them on your captain (or watch an emote or celebration) before you buy.
How do I get coins?
You earn 150 coins the first time you win each tournament, and every season brings a gift of coins once. You can also buy coins in the game's Store. Matches against the computer and challenges pay skill points, not coins.
Can I buy coins with real money? Are there ads?
Yes, you can buy coins in the game's Store. Payment goes through the App Store with your Apple Account. There are no ads.
What are skill points for?
You earn them from tournament wins, achievements and three daily challenges. Spend them in My Team to raise your players' Speed, Shooting, Passing and Defending. Win all five tournaments and your whole team can reach 88 in everything; achievements and daily challenges take it on to 99.
Tournaments and characters
How do tournaments work?
Each starts with a group stage of three games: win two to go through. Then come the quarterfinal, semifinal and final. Lose one of those and you start again from the group stage. A tie always goes to a penalty shootout.
How many tournaments are there?
Five: The Moo-tiful Cup, The Waddle Wonderland Cup, The Ink-redible Cup, The Howl-iday Cup and The Purr-amid Cup. All five are open from the start, so play them in any order, and play friendlies at their fields whenever you like. Each one pays 150 coins the first time you win it.
Who are the bosses?
Each final is against a boss: Milkshake, Gelato, Taffy, Earl Grey and Licorice. Beat one and they join your team for free, and a gold statue of them goes in your Trophy Room.
How do I get more characters?
Some join you as you play (Marmalade after 3 wins, Blueberry after 6 and Saffron after 9), the bosses join when you win their tournaments, and others are in the Store.
What can I change about my team?
In My Team you pick your six starters from your squad and give players their names, jersey numbers and goal celebrations. You can also name your team and choose its emblem and kits.
My players are getting slow. Why?
Sprinting uses up stamina, and tired players lose pace. Make substitutions from the pause menu.
Seasons
What are seasons?
At certain times of year the island on the main menu dresses up. Halloween runs through October, with a night sky, pumpkins and a bat or two flying past.
How does the season gift work?
The first time you open the game during a season, you get a gift of coins. It comes once per season each year, going by your device's date.
Are there seasonal items?
Yes. The Store has a Halloween collection, including the Pumpkin Ball, the Skeleton Kit, hats like Bat Wings and the Candy Corn Hat, and spooky celebrations and emotes.
Settings and languages
What's in Settings?
Language, sound effects and music, the camera (Close, Normal or Wide), two passing helpers, and Share anonymous stats.
Does the game send any data?
Anonymous stats about how it's played, such as which fields and tournaments get played and what's popular in the Store. They carry a random ID the game makes for itself and nothing that says who you are, and never the names you type. Turn them off any time with Share anonymous stats in the game's Settings. When you play online, the game also connects to our match server for the match (see Online play). Our privacy policy has the details.
How do I make the game easier or harder?
Each tournament shows its difficulty, from one star to five, and the easiest one you haven't won yet is marked Recommended. Start there, and spend the skill points you earn in My Team to get your team ready for the tougher ones.
Which languages can I play in?
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Korean, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. The first time you play, the game picks your device's language if it's one of these (a device set to Traditional Chinese gets Simplified Chinese); you can change it in Settings at any time.
Troubleshooting
There's no sound.
On iPhone, check that it isn't in silent mode: the game stays quiet while the Ring/Silent switch (or Silent mode) is on. On iPad, turn the volume up with the volume buttons or the volume slider in Control Center. On a Mac, turn it up with the volume keys or in Control Center. The game plays along with any music you already have playing. Also check Sound effects and Music in the game's Settings.
Can I play with my iPhone or iPad upright?
No. PawKick Cuties is played sideways, so the whole field fits on the screen: the app always shows in landscape.
The game paused by itself.
A match against the computer pauses whenever you leave the app, so you don't miss anything. Pick up where you left off from the pause menu. An online match carries on: the computer plays your side, and you have a minute to come back.
The game runs slowly.
It's a 3D game, so close apps you aren't using. Low Power Mode can also slow it down, so try turning it off while you play.
My progress has disappeared.
If you installed the game again or you're on a new iPhone, iPad or Mac, check that you're signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account, then open the game: with iCloud backup on, your progress comes back. Without it, progress is lost with the app. We never have a copy, so we can't restore it ourselves.
